On Friday 16th June we had our Active School Flag visit. The active committee presented pictures and videos of all the different activities we had done during the year. Third-Fifth Class displayed their P.E. skills and their new knowledge of tug-of-war. 1st, 5th and 6th Class showed some of the active breaks that we have been doing in the classroom. We focused on the Athletics strand this year so Senior Infants and Second Class joined forces to do an Athletics stations activity. All of our hard work paid off and we received our Active Flag. We raised the flag on Thursday 22nd June. Well done to everybody for the great effort that was made during the year.

Well done to the Active Committee for all their fantastic ideas during the year, for helping to organise activities and for trying their best in every activity. We hope everybody has an active and fun Summer!

Walterstown National School is going for our Active School Flag.

The aim of the Active flag process is to get more schools, more active, more often. Children need 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day. However, eighty percent of children do not reach this target. Our school is committed to ensuring that this percentage is lessened. Let’s get moving!

We have created an Active Committee. Our committee has representatives from Second to Sixth Class. They have thought of a number of fantastic ideas already.

They are leading the school in our Move on Monday initiative. On Monday, our lines become Active Lines. The committee has been leading us in a number of fun activities. We learned that by doing just 8 extra minutes of activity a day can increase your step count by 1,000 steps!

Here are some action shots of Move on Monday!
We can’t wait to take part in the Operation Transformation 10@10 initiative. On 10th February at 10am primary schools in Ireland will take part in a physical activity break for 10 minutes.

We have some great ideas already. Keep checking for photographs!

We have set up our Active Flag noticeboard. Children have been bringing in their medals and trophies to celebrate their active achievements outside of school. We have a special part of our notice board for these pictures. Well done to our Girl’s Football team who won the Sciath na Scol competition this year. Sport is very important and we want to celebrate it.
