Our Woodland Wilderness Walkway
To celebrate the opening of our Woodland Wilderness Walkway we held an art competition during Creative Schools Week. Pupils were asked to create a piece of art which would be suitable for our unique walkway and enjoyed by everyone.
We were blown away by the efforts! Logs, fairy doors, bird/bee houses, board games, mushrooms and toadstools are just some of the things our pupils made. Promoting creativity and sustainability, our pupils used natural materials such as stone, wood, earth, clay, cotton, moss and wool to ensure that their pieces of art tied in with our unspoilt landscape.
Our Woodland Wilderness Walkway is unique to our school. It promotes the well being of children through quality time spent outdoors. It also promotes the children’s sense of space and place and their connection to nature and the natural environment.
Creative Schools Week 2025
The pupils in Walterstown National School had a fantastic time celebrating Creative Schools this week. We mostly focused on textile art – where fine art and craft collide! Weaving, knotting, beading and braiding (including hair!) were just some of the techniques we learned about. We built an outdoor tepee, made a tapestry from chicken wire, created crazy hairstyles and beautiful dream catchers for our new Sensory Garden.
Cross Country
Thanks to Trevor from Great Island Athletics and to Cuskinny Court for another brilliant Cross Country event – The Great Island Cross Cup. Our athletes had a great day and we were thrilled to bring home 5 medals!
Fleur’s Feast

Thanks to Mr. Keogh and Ms. Fleming who prepared a delicious feast for all staff in return for a donation to My Canine Companion. We raised €400 for the wonderful charity that brought us our Fleur.
Volleyball All Ireland
