Student of the Week Winners

Collecting their certs and prizes in the hall. Well done everyone!
Junior Infants
Junior Infants have settled very well into big school. They are making new friends and are working hard. They have been busy every morning working on their fine motor skills and had so much fun exploring on their tour around the school. They were learning about colours in maths and made beautiful family portraits in art. Ms. Dineen and “Buddy Bear” are very proud of all the boys and girls!

School Reopening Times
As the summer break comes to an end, we’re excited to extend a heartfelt welcome back to Walterstown NS for the upcoming school year!

“The Great Wave”
As part of Creative Schools we recreated a famous painting – “The Great Wave Off Kanagawa” by Japanese artist Hokusai. Our artwork, “The Great Wave”, was made from tiles which we broke into tiny pieces to create a beautiful mosaic effect.
Each child in the school stuck a tile onto the artwork representing the inclusive nature of art in our school.
“The Great Wave” is hanging in our school hall for everyone to enjoy, appreciate and interpret whatever way they wish!
Sports Day 2023
We had a very successful sports day in Walterstown National School this year. The pupils took part in a wide range of activities in the sunshine including a bouncy castle! A special thank you to the Parents Association who organised an ice cream truck which came to the school – a well earned treat at the end of a fantastic day!
Active Week 2023
STEAM Engineering-in-a-Box
Last week the pupils in sixth class paid a visit to Gilead Sciences. This was a lovely way to celebrate completing the STEAM Engineering-in-a-Box programme which the children took part in this year. EIAB was a fun, engaging, ten week programme which guided the engineer, teacher and children collaboratively through a variety of challenges faced by humans throughout the history of mankind. We would like to thank Gilead for giving us the opportunity to take part in EIAB!
Sixth Class
In June we visited UCC. We got the bus up to Cork City and we were given a tour of the campus. We saw the Boole Library and the observatory. We also visited the church on campus.
We visited Ballyhass lakes in Coachford on our school tour. We did a nature walk, a netted obstacle course, a team building course and our favourite, the water inflatables.
We are now busy preparing for our graduation which is on Tuesday 27th June.
